Adventures in teaching

My friend likes to read his two young sons fairy tales
at night. Having a deep-rooted sense of humor, he often
ad-libs parts of the stories for fun.

One day his youngest son was sitting in his first grade
class as the teacher was reading the story of the Three
Little Pigs.

She came to the part of the story where the first pig was
trying to acquire building materials for his home.  She
said "...And so the pig went up to the man with a
wheelbarrow full of straw and said 'Pardon me sir, but might
I have some of that straw to build my house with?'" Then the
teacher asked the class "And what do you think that man said?"
and my friend's son raised his hand and said

"I know! I know!  He said 'Holy smokes! A talking pig!'"

I was sitting behind a car at a stop light the other day and I noticed that
it had a bumper sticker that read "Honk if you love Jesus". So I thought
about it a bit and since I loved Jesus, I honked my horn.

I was very suprised when the driver of the car got out and yelled, "The
light is still red you asshole!!!!" got back in the car and drove off
through the light which had just turned green. 

During a committee meeting at our college we were discussing 
how best to teach technology since it changed so fast. I made 
the statement that when teaching technology, most teachers 
were "flying by the seat of their pants." A few days later in a 
faculty retreat, a teacher from our committee told the members 
of the retreat that she liked my description of how we were trying 
to teach technology. She is, however, from eastern 
Europe and still struggles with American idioms. As she gave 
me credit for the quote, she said, "Most teachers are teaching 
by the fly of their pants!"
