During a committee meeting at our college we were discussing 
how best to teach technology since it changed so fast. I made 
the statement that when teaching technology, most teachers 
were "flying by the seat of their pants." A few days later in a 
faculty retreat, a teacher from our committee told the members 
of the retreat that she liked my description of how we were trying 
to teach technology. She is, however, from eastern 
Europe and still struggles with American idioms. As she gave 
me credit for the quote, she said, "Most teachers are teaching 
by the fly of their pants!"

You Ought to be in Pictures: More than 50 people responded to an invitation
to a casting call for a Robert DeNiro movie being shot in Boston. The only
problem was, the invitations were sent by police. To people with outstanding
arrest warrants. One woman complained she "took a day off from work" to meet
DeNiro. She was led away in handcuffs instead. "It's so nice to scam people
who are scammers," one detective said. The casting call, sent to 3,800
fugitives, offered more than $200 for two hours of work as extras, plus the
chance of "becoming famous." (UPI) 

New White House Pet

President Bill Clinton has purchased yet another pet for the White House 
to keep his cat and dog company.  The 18 yr. old horse was delivered to 
the White House yesterday. Mr. Clinton took the afternoon off to ride the 
new arrival which he has  named "Missie".
Mr. Clinton did not allow the press to attend his  first encounter with 
Missie. He said "She needs some time to settle  into her new home, but
she's a beautiful beast and quite a challenge to ride.  Hillary is still
not convinced this is a good idea but she knows how important riding 
horses is to me."
